Chapter 339 - 339: Unlimited Recursion
Of course, Morizion was not weak.As he was punched backward, Morizion managed to purge the irritating magic that was taking root within his own body just in time. Following that, he performed an air-step, kicking against the atmosphere to launch himself back into an attack in a completely law-defying manner.
In a mere instant, he was behind Ebadon's back. There was no longer any mockery in Morizion's eyes, only a fixed, intense stare forward. Clearly, he had begun to view Ebadon as an opponent he had to face with his full strength.
And Ebadon did the same.
He no longer employed minor tricks once his opponent had become alert and strengthened their defenses. Besides, there was no enhancement more powerful than enhancing oneself.
Morizion's blade sliced through Ebadon. The hardness he had anticipated did not appear; on the contrary, "Ebadon" was easily cut into two halves. No blood flowed out; there was only a lightness as if what Morizion had just slashed was not flesh and blood, but a mass of clouds.
Morizion's pupils constricted in disbelief. Meanwhile, behind him, a figure had appeared at some unknown moment, poised to throw a punch.
"How is this possible?"
The Ancestor of the Sword Clan—the man who always acted as though he held everything in the palm of his hand—showed a look of panic for the first time. He went as far as to doubt his own senses, the very thing a swordsman takes the most pride in.
But the answer was actually not that difficult to understand.
Afterimages and the traces left behind when a person moves are incredibly fragile things that vanish in an instant, but what if Ebadon enhanced the essence of these very things?
The result was that an Ebadon who appeared real but was false, an exact duplicate, would manifest.
Naturally, under normal circumstances, Morizion would hardly fall for such a trick, so Ebadon chose the exact moment Morizion was launching a high-intensity counter-attack.
At this moment, Ebadon would deploy the counter-attack to the counter-attack.
"It shouldn't be too strong..."
That was what flashed through Morizion's mind the moment he realized he had been played by Ebadon.
Previously, he had taken a direct punch from Ebadon. Although that attack was indeed very strong—much stronger than those mindless golems—it still could not break through Morizion's defense, which granted "death" to impacts, damage, and attacks.
As the possessor of grand-class Life Magic, using Life Magic in combination with swordsmanship was merely Morizion's strongest offensive method; it did not mean that if he didn't swing his sword, he couldn't deploy magic to take away the "life" of all things.
Therefore, Ebadon's heavy punch had not actually wounded Morizion's foundation.
However, he would very quickly have to retract that assessment.
Boom!!!
With a massive explosion, Morizion was driven straight down into the ground. It was also the first time in the battle he had been wounded, as even the solid protective layer from Life Magic could not fully mitigate the injury.
His assessment had not been wrong; Enhancement Magic was, regardless, a magic system geared toward support that lacked truly sharp offensive means. That was why Morizion thought he could take another punch from Ebadon without a scratch.
However, his assessment was still insufficient. The flexibility of Enhancement Magic had been underestimated.
It was true that Enhancement Magic could only boost Ebadon's Earth Magic to the point of just touching the grand-class, and at that level, it could do nothing to Morizion because of the so-called discordance of consciousness systems.
But what if Enhancement Magic was used to enhance itself? In this case, there could be no such thing as discordance; what could be more harmonious with a thing than the thing itself?
Terrifyingly, according to this logic, Enhancement Magic could continue to self-enhance the very magic that had already enhanced the magic, and so on forever.
Ebadon's power would be limitless, even if only in theory.
But in reality, it only mattered that Ebadon's power could grow to a threshold that exceeded Morizion's defensive capability.
Although this attack caused no further damage beyond a bloody nose and mouth for the Sword Clan Ancestor, if the Principal had not been constantly moderating the power or if Ebadon had not focused on condensing it, this one fist would have been enough to shake all of Adia, and the inner city would certainly have been devastated.
Morizion, of course, did not lose that easily. He sprang up, his sword immediately swinging out to lock onto Ebadon. Now he had only one thought: he had to land a single sword strike on this man Ebadon.
Everything around Morizion was thickened by Enhancement Magic to the point of solidification so that he could not move, but he seemed not to care. The death zone around Morizion's body killed everything that blocked his path—from resistance and obstacles to friction—making his attack speed unnaturally fast.
This time, he was absolutely focused, locked solely onto Ebadon.
Ebadon would find it difficult to escape this move. In Morizion's perception, Ebadon would absolutely die, regardless of the outcome.
Life would be snatched away, death would descend, and existence would vanish into nothingness.
He snatched away the life of the space itself, and of every escape route Ebadon could take.
Yet, when facing a sword of death head-on, Ebadon's eyes remained strangely calm.
"From the moment I saw that girl, I have always wanted to see what kind of warrior you were."
"It turns out you are only this much."
Before the blade could reach Ebadon, Morizion was attacked.
A swarm of golems crowded around him, using their hands to pierce into his body.
"Why... can these things bypass my defense?"
"Could it be..."
By the time Morizion noticed, it was already too late.
Enhancement Magic can enhance itself.
Following this logic, although the Earth Magic was enhanced by Ebadon to the threshold of touching the grand-class, that was only the highest limit for Earth Magic, not for Enhancement Magic.
And so the story continued.
Although these golems could not be compared to Ebadon himself, and even through indirect means they could not be enhanced to an extremely high level, bypassing the defensive death zone surrounding Morizion for a short time was not difficult.
Ebadon had measured everything long ago, from the first moment the battle began.
And this would be the third punch.
